Jose Arturo C. De Castro


Biography

ATTY. JOSE ARTURO C. DE CASTRO obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree, with Scholastic 2nd Honors, at the Ateneo De Manila Law School in April 2003. Right after taking the bar exams, he went into public service holding the rank of Presidential Staff Officer VI and later on Director IV at the Office of the Executive Secretary, Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines. In August 2005, he ventured into private commercial, criminal and civil law practice at the De Castro and Cagampang Law Offices. In December 2006, he was appointed as Prosecution Attorney II at the National Prosecution Service, Department of Justice, Republic of the Philippines. In February 2009, at the age of 31, and in recognition of his exceptional competence and dedication to the service, Atty. Jose De Castro was appointed as Assistant Secretary, Department of Justice—the youngest in the history of the institution. Atty. Jose De Castro is also a budding member of the legal academe, emulating his parents Dr. Arturo Makalintal De Castro, and Dr. Soledad M. Cagampang-De Castro, both of whom are well-known professors, authors and luminaries in the Philippine legal community. As a young lawyer, he started teaching as a guest/alternate lecturer for various law subjects at the Lyceum College of Law, the Manila Law School, the University of the East College of Law and the Ateneo de Manila Law School. He was later commissioned as a law professor at the University of the East College of Law (2005), the Manila Law College (2006), and the Philippine Christian University College of Law (2009). He is currently a Professor of Criminal Law 1 and 2 at the Ateneo de Manila Law School.
