Jorge Villadolid Sibal


Biography

Prof. Sibal is the Dean of the University of the Philippines School of Labor and Industrial Relations (UP. SOL AIR). An expert in human resource development, he is also a social compliance assessor and consultant of the Employers' Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), the ILO, Verite of the U.S. A and the GTZed of Germany. He is also an active leader of professional, NGO and civil society organizations, among which are: International Industrial Relations Association Phil., Inc., Urban Missionaries Foundation, Inc., Philippine Employer-Labor Social Partners, Inc. and Fair Trade Alliance. Prof. Sibal was a recipient of various awards: the 2002 Gawad Chanselor award for "Best Extension Programme " as the Director of the UP SOLAIR Center for Labor and Grassroots Initiatives; and the 1996 Sikap-Gawa Industrial Peace award for training and research by the Bishops-Businessmen's Conference for Human Development and the 1996 Gawad Chanselor award for 'Tinakamahusay na Pahinungod" (Best in Public Service) while serving as the Coordinator of the UP SOLAIR Labor Education and Extension Program. Prof. Sibal authored chapters of ILO publications: Globalization, deregulation and workers- Changes and outcomes (2007) edited by Sangheon Lee and Francois Eyraud; and Socially Sensitive Enterprise Restructuring: Context and Examples (The Philippines) (2006) edited by Randall Schuler and Nikolai Rogovsky. Among the books authored or co-authored by Dean Sibal are: Human Resource Development, Industrial Relations and Management in the Philippine Setting: A Guidebook; Philippine Labor and the Economy; Changes and Challenges: 60 Years of Struggle Towards decent Work; Corporate Social Responsibility and Occupational Safety and Health; and Theories in Industrial Relations.
