Antonio ‘TR’ Reyes


Biography

ABOUTT1IF AUTHOR Antonio Retuerma Reyes or TRr to his co-employees, associates and friends, is a former executive of Unilever, Union Carbide and RFM. He is an experienced business entrepreneur and a civic leader. An active NAMFREL organizer, he was tasked to lead a team of volunteers that monitored the election count at the PICC during the I985 snap elections. He was invited to join government immediately after EDSA I. He is presently DTI's executive director of the International Coffee Organization Certifying Agency since July 1987. During the incumbency of JoeCon and later, of Cesar B. Bautista as DTI Secretary, he was concurrently assigned other positions either as deputy or head of other DTI bureaus and attached agencies such as the now defunct GTEB. Philippine Shippers ' Bureau, the Bureau of Export Trade Promotion and the private sector-led Export Development Council A Career Executive Service Eligible, he first gained his Civil Service Eligibility while still with the private sector when he passed the government examinations for Management Analyst in November 17, 1963 and his second, on November 13, 1995 as Director III. after passing the Career Executive Service Board's CESO examinations. TR initiated or helped organized nonstock, non-profit foundations/associations which include the Coffee Foundation of the Philippines. World Research Institute, the Kapit-Bisig Foundation for Social Progress, the Specialty Coffee Association of the Philippines, and the Freight Forwarders Foundation of the Philippines. He is a founding member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Coffee Forum composed of India. Indonesia. Malaysia. Papua New Guinea, Sri-Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam, which he chaired for two years. He also served as Vice-Chairman of the Federation of ASEAN Shippers' Council As ICOCA director, he usually represented the Philippines as its Official Delegate to the International Coffee Council meetings in London, UK. A management engineer by profession, TR had always believed, adhered to and practiced the Boy Scout's motto of "Always be prepared" and it's slogan "Do a good deed everyday". At 7, he became a Model Boy Scout in his elementary school at Lakan-Dula in Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila. He is also a reserve officer in the AFP and had gone through a number of AADT courses. He finished a very rigid Jungle Warfare and Mountain Operations Course with the PC Training Command in Cavite which he topped when he was 40 and graduated No. I in the 1980 AFP Home Defense Course covering abridged courses in Special Warfare, NDCP, CGSC, and Home Defense. TR has been an active working head of family since he was IS and has managed to stay healthy, able and strong. He worked in the private sector in various capacities for close to twenty years and continues to serve in government for the last twenty-two years. He plans to spend the rest of his years in the Health and Wellness industry to help people live long, but stay young, fruitful, and healthy.
