Roland G. Simbulan retired as a full time faculty of University of the Philippines in April 2019 with the highest academic rank of Professor 12 in Development Studies and Public Management after 36 years of teaching. He still teaches at U.P.’s Graduate School as a Professorial Lecturer 5.
U.P. awarded him the U.P. Centennial Professorial Chair during its 100th anniversary in 2008. He served as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences for six years and Research Coordinator of the Manila Studies Program. He served as Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development of U.P. Manila, after which he was elected in 2006 by the 3,600-strong faculty of the U.P. System to represent them as Faculty Regent in U.P. ‘s highest policy-making body the U.P. Board of Regents.
From 1987-1995, he served as Senior Political Consultant at the Philippine Senate. He is the sole author of nine books on Philippine Foreign Policy, Philippine-US Relations, among the most notable are: THE BASES OF OUR INSECURITY, and FORGING A NATIONALIST FOREIGN POLICY, which was translated into Japanese and published and distributed in Japan.
Simbulan served as National Chairman of the Nuclear-Free Philippines Coalition from 1988 to 2005. Currently, he is Vice Chair of the Center for People’s Empowerment and Governance (CenPeg), a public policy think tank.
Professor Roland Simbulan is a lifetime member of the prestigious honor society, the PHI KAPPA PHI, and the PI GAMMA MU international honor society for excellence in the social sciences.
