Dr. Igmidio C. Lat, a native of Tanauan, Batangas, finished his Pre-law course from the University of the Philippines, and Bachelor of Laws at San Beda College. He was also a member of fraternities PI SIGMA (U.P. Diliman) and Alpha Phi Beta (San Beda College). He passed the Bar in November 1981 and was admitted to the practice of law on May 05, 1982.
In the start of his career, he served as an Associate of Reynaldo Bagatsing and Ex-Fiscal Rogelio Nogales Law Offices.Then he went into government service and became an Acting Branch Clerk of Court of The Regional Trial Court of Batangas, Branch 7
He was eventually transferred to Manila, Regional Trial Court, Branch 30 when it was still presided over by then-Judge Pedro A. Ramirez (now a retired Senior Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals). He rose through the ranks and became the President of the Association of Branch Clerks of Court of the Regional Trial Courts of Manila (55 Branches).
He returned to private practice at the offices of Atty. Ricardo de Guzman and Atty. Francisco S. de Guzman after resigning as Acting Branch Clerk of Court (escribano) of Manila.
Around June 1987, he became a Special Counsel of Manila and served as 4th Assistant City Prosecutor till his resignation in January 1994. Prior to his resignation, he was promoted to 3rd Assistant City Prosecutor by President Fidel V. Ramos in February 1994 but did not take his oath.
While serving as Manila’s prosecutor for over seven years, he had previously worked as a trial fiscal (now Prosecutor) for MTC Judges Virgilio Jiro and Rogelio Pizarro and RTC Judges Demetrio Battario, Jr. and Teresita Flores. Likewise, Atty. Lat became a member of 4 Task Forces under the Department of Justice, to wit: Task Forces on Estafa and Illegal Recruitment, Dangerous Drugs, Detainees and Hoarding.
Participated in seminars and symposia on Remedial Law, the New Family Code and cross-examination techniques. He is also recipient of Certificate of Honor by the Philippine Bar Association, Certificate of Recognition in the field of law given by the Tanauan Institute Alumni Association, Certificate of Recognition as OUTSTANDING MEMBER in the field of law given by the You and I Club of Malvar, Batangas, and awarded a Plaque of Appreciation as Outstanding in the field of Prosecution by the Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity, San Beda College of Law.
He was nominated as Outstanding Public Prosecutor (Manila) to the 1992 Annual Awards for Judicial Excellence given by the Supreme Court. After his resignation from the Manila Fiscal’s (Prosecutor’s) Office and arriving from the United States of America, he became a partner of George King Law Office. He has his own Law Office at 158-A West Avenue, Quezon City (Tel. No. 920-58-59 to 60) and is a licensed Real Estate Broker.
