This manuscript did not begin as a book about joy. It began with a question about darkness.
The first question was a biblical one. What is the outer darkness of Matthew 22:13? Who is the garmentless man? Why does a guest who was truly invited and welcomed into the feast hall by the King himself end the parable weeping outside it? And why has the Philippine Baptist pulpit, which preaches the invitation with force and the gospel with clarity, so seldom preached the warning the parable’s ending requires?
