The idea behind this book is straightforward: to discuss human rights and their protection under the Philippine legal system. The author recognizes that human rights are often misunderstood as abstract ideals relevant only to inter-national affairs. This book aims to dispel that misconception by demonstrating how human rights are concretely safe-guarded within the Philippine legal framework.
This book is organized into five parts, each addressing specific clusters of rights and freedoms that are internationally recognized and have been applied within the Philippine legal framework. The parts include: (1) Fundamental Rights to Life, Liberty, and Security; (2) Rights in Criminal Justice; (3) Personal Rights and Freedoms; (4) Political Liberties and Civic Engagement; and (5) Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
